Pete is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and current Director of Finance at The Journey, a non-denominational church located in South St. Louis. In this capacity, Pete is responsible for the finances of a church with over 2000 attendees on five different campuses with over 50 staff members. Pete brings an excellent knowledge of finances and accounting systems to the Board of Directors.
Serving on the board and lending support in the areas of accounting and finance, Matt is a small business owner, resident of St. Louis City, and the spouse of an educator. Matt currently owns and operates an insurance agency in St. Louis, MO where he has spent the last 6 years with All-State Insurance. Upon receiving his finance degree from Missouri State University, he spent two years in corporate and securities accounting with Fortune 500 Company, MetLife Insurance.
Brad is a Senior Researcher with the Illinois Education Research Council (IERC) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he leads large-scale investigations of the state’s teacher and principal workforces. Brad earned his MA in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2001 and a BS in Cognitive Studies from Vanderbilt University in 1998. Prior to joining the IERC, Brad was a researcher with the Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE) where he studied teacher evaluation and compensation systems. He has also served as a program evaluator and as a school improvement consultant with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, has presented at multiple national and state education research conferences, and is the author of numerous articles and reports on education policy. Brad is a resident of St Louis and lives in the Shaw neighborhood.
A St. Louis attorney currently employed by the United States District Court–Eastern District of Missouri, Mike obtained his bachelor’s degree at Missouri State University (Political Science) and his juris doctorate at St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. As a law student, he worked for the Texas-Rio Grande Legal Aid where he assisted individuals in pro se divorces. Upon completion of law school, he moved back to St. Louis (South City) to pursue his legal career. Since returning to St. Louis, he has practiced in several different areas of law, specifically, criminal defense, estate planning (wills/trusts), insurance defense, personal injury, and traffic law. He is also a freelance music journalist and has been published nationally and internationally. Mike lives in the Holly Hills neighborhood with his family.
Chris is the Director of Human Resources at the Missouri Athletic Club, a private, non-profit social club which employs over 300 employees at two facilities. Ms. Maurer began her human resources career over 15 years ago as a recruiting specialist for both a nationally known employment placement agency and a private professional college located in downtown St. Louis. Ms. Maurer is an experienced HR generalist who provides direction on a full range of support including employee relations, policy development, recruitment, performance management, compensation and benefits, safety and security. As the HR Director, Ms. Maurer leads both the human resources department and the security team and is a member of the Club’s Executive Committee. She received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees from Saint Louis University and has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resource Certification Institute. Ms. Maurer is a member of the AAIM/Employers’ Association, the Society of Human Resources Management, and the Tower Grove Heights Neighborhood Association. Chris lives with her family in the City of St. Louis.
Kelsey is a part of the development team for Teach For America – St. Louis, and a Teach For America alumna. During her time as a corps member, she taught at Construction Careers Center Charter High School in St. Louis, and remained there for a third year as Instructional Coordinator. While in this role, CCC’s students scored among the highest St. Louis city schools on the state End of Course exams. Kelsey is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in Mass Communication and French. She received her master’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Kelsey and her husband Ryan live in the St. Louis area with their two dogs.
Patrick Banks is the Director of Alumni Affairs for Teach For America – St. Louis. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Wabash College he entered the Teach For America program as a corps member where he taught high school biology, chemistry, and physical science in St. Louis Public Schools. He has also obtained a Master’s degree in Public Service from the Clinton School of Public Service. Recently he has worked as an arts education consultant for the City of Newport, Arkansas and helped develop a science curriculum for five schools in Western Kenya. In his free time, Patrick has set a goal of running a half marathon in every state. He also enjoys playing ultimate frisbee competitively.
